Thank you for your presentation. I just have a quick question for you.
Is there a way to reduce the dependency on foreign aid (fund)?

There is. Just that it takes a long time to be implemented. In order to reduce the dependency on foreign aid, there needs to be a better economy system. Countries would need to change their current economy system and embrace the new system. Say, African countries currently rely much on crops and selling them for living, but this can be changed by shifting into a more digitalized economy where the world demands it more. However, this would take a long time as education system, the curriculum needs to be changed to educate the people. Through this way, these people can grow up with the required skills and knowledge and work in a more digitalized economy.

Hello. Thank you for your response. For my proposed solution, I suggest firstly, a changed economy system to a more digitalized economy by changing the education system to educate the young on required skills for a digitalized economy. In the current world, the world is revolving around a digitalized economy where IT skills are valued. Secondly, using the foreign aid to build useful facilities for the economy and education. Currently, the foreign aid is being used to solve the impacts of poverty, instead of focusing on the real problem, the whole economy system. More money should be used to develop the economy by building infrastructures and facilities. However, there should be some money saved to deal with the impacts like poor health of people.

Hello! You mentioned the pros and cons of foreign aid and said that foreign aid is difficult to improve the situation in poor countries, so what other ways to improve the situation in poor countries? And if we can solve the cons of foreign aid, I think foreign aid can help improve the situation in poor countries. So what are the ways to solve those problems?

Thank you for listening to my presentation. You are right, foreign aid is difficult to improve the situation in poor countries. However, I do admit that it is difficult for the African countries to refuse foreign aid abruptly without any back up plans. Therefore, I suggest that the African countries should create more jobs for the people. And as of one of the ways to create jobs, African governments should be involved in more trade globally and regionally. This would create jobs for the people in Africa, and allow them to put food on the table without relying on foreign aid.

Thank you for your presentation. I agree with you that Africa over relies on foreign aid. However, currently, if we take away the foreign support they desperately need, many of the countries in Africa will go deeper into the global poverty rates. Therefore, I want to ask you what will be some steps that some countries in Africa have to take in order to overcome the reliance of foreign aid?

Thank you for listening to my presentation. As of some steps that African countries should take in order to overcome the reliance of foreign aid, I believe that African governments should seek to improve regional integration initiatives, which are key to sustaining development and encouraging long-term prosperity for the entire region. Increasing intra-African trade will be a key component to accelerating economic growth, as it will increase industry competition, improve productivity, and develop local infrastructure. When combined with good governance and political stability, intra-Africa trade and deepening market integration will significantly increase economic growth, job creation, employment, poverty reduction, inflow of foreign direct investment, industrial development, and better integration of the continent into the global economy. It will also decrease the continent’s current heavy reliance on the outside world for its growth.

Hi, my name is Harris Park and I go to Ernest Manning High School in Canada. I enjoyed watching your presentation and it was interesting to learn about the pros and cons of foreign aid. I partly agree with your opinion that foreign aid can actually have more negative impacts than positive ones, but I do have some questions. If African countries living in extreme poverty completely abandon foreign aid and refuse help from them, in the long run, they may become a less dependent country as you mentioned in your presentation. However, in the short run, the countries will have to face countless adversities like dealing with food, water, shelters, clothes etc. Do you have any solutions that will resolve the short term problems of refusing foreign aid? You also mentioned that the pros of receiving foreign aid were that up to 38 million lives were saved from diseases. So if countries had not received foreign aid since 2002, it would mean that theoretically 38 million lives could have been lost for the success of the country in the future. Does the success of a country outweigh the death of countless people? What is your opinion on this?

Thank you for listening to my presentation. About foreign aid, there are many cons compared to pros. However, I agree with you that if foreign aid is completely refused, countless lives would be lost. Therefore, I suggest that, African governments would still receive foreign aid, but the difference is that, the usage of it will be different. More money would be used to deal with the root of the problem, which is the economy system, and less sum of money on the resulting effects of poverty, including poor health. This is because there is a greater urgency to stop the death of countless people in the short run, but there is greater significance in fixing the main cause of this problem, the economy system in the long run. I hope my reply would have cleared your doubts.

    Hello, this is team TAT!
You mentioned that dependency is one of the biggest drawback to aid, and I thought it was caused by the nature of “one-time” aid. Just as we should teach how to catch fish, not just give a fish, I expect that suggesting and supporting how the economy will grow through relief activities, and industries suitable for the country will be a great help to the country. How about your opinion?

Thank you for listening to my presentation. I absolutely agree with you. Until now, the foreign aid has been continuously used for solving the immediate problems of poverty, and not the root cause of poverty. Foreign aid in short term would be really helpful, I agree with you that the receiving countries got to think about the long-term impacts, and its increasing reliance on foreign aid.
