My name is Molly Sunwoo and I am a recent university graduate (Class of 2020) with experience in College Admissions Consulting (specific to UK universities - i.e. personal statement construction and delivery) and English Conversational Tutoring. To provide a brief personal background, I have lived in Bangkok from grades 1-3, in Singapore from grades 4-12, and in London during my undergraduate years.
Below are my academic credentials that may be relevant to considering students and parents:
English Literature HL 7
French B HL 7
History HL 7
Undergraduate Diploma (LSE): First Class Honours
(2019) Winner of the BSc Goodwin Award for the Best Examination Performance by a second year BSc IR student - £250 Award
My essay writing classes consist of two main functions: foundational training (introducing elements such as structure, style, syntax) and practical training (consolidating the above elements through frequent practice and feedback, as well as adding flair to written pieces through discussing more nuanced aspects such as tone and angle). These lessons are appropriate for all age groups from younger students who are seeking to enhance their basic essay writing skills to older students who are looking to take their written delivery to the next level. My approach to essay writing have been strengthened through years of practice, from IB History and Literature HL to a bachelor's degree in International Relations - all of which are centered around written delivery.
My english conversational classes take a more personalized approach. I am a firm believer that effective conversations stem from a student's enthusiasm in a given topic. Reaching a level of comfort in 'speaking out loud' comes before technical correctness, and the student's personal passions can bolster this process. Therefore, I design my lessons with the student, after getting to know them and their interests a bit more thoroughly. Thus far, some examples of lesson structures have included: topic-based lessons (choosing a topic together, assigning related video or articles for homework, comprehensive debate/discussions during the lesson), movie-based lessons etc. (similar process, also enhances listening skills, suited for younger students who may struggle with active interaction in complex topics).
