< Gender Equality for Everyone >

The aim of this report is to recognize the seriousness about gender discrimination and find out solutions to make a gender equal society. This report is necessary for our future since gender equality is related to all 17 SDGs for the 2030 agenda.

In order to write this report, I searched a number of websites about researches and the results about gender equality. Furthermore, reading articles and watching videos were also helpful in adding data about this topic.

By this research, the significance of gender parity got clear. The graphs and data accurately identify what advances and policies are needed in which countries since the rate of gender equality is different in countries.

The researches were conduct by utilizing a variety of measurements and indicators. From all of the results established by proved associations, it could be concluded that gender equality will be an advantage for the world in many fields. The economy of a country, the performance of companies and even the society in the Covid19 pandemic showed improvement as they get closer to gender equality.

Hello this is Sohyeon Park from WKS.

I would like to question you if you have further evidence that gender equality is the direct reason for the GDP increases in certain European countries, as you mentioned about at 2:15 in your video?

Thank you for kindly asking your doubts. To begin with, as you can see in the video from 00:51, the OCED has shown that improvements in gender equality in employment have contributed to economic growth in the Nordic countries. To specify, promoting women’s employment and hours can help boost labor supply. More labors who are qualified to work will be able to increase the productive capacity of the country. Furthermore, making better use of the increasingly-well-educated female talent pool and improving job match can help deliver productivity gains. You can find more details in this link which is the summary about the OECD’s report “Is the Last Mile the Longest? Economic Gains from Gender Equality in Nordic Countries” http://www.oecd.org/els/emp/last-mile-longest-gender-nordic-countries-brief.pdf
      Thank you!

First of all, congratulations on your take on how to achieve gender equality. My name is Suyeon Bae from team SYD, KMLA. You managed to pinpoint a lot of problems regarding women and their stance in politics. However, it leaves me curious as to how we can actually tackle this rather broad problem? How would you work towards solving such an issue?

Thank you for asking your doubts. Indeed, gender equality is a huge issue that the whole world has to face. Gender inequality can be seen in our daily lives and the vast majority of the people seems to have stereotypes about gender. It is not their fault of having a fixed mindset. Gender inequality was there from the society where our ancestors lived. However, now, people acknowledge that gender cannot be a limitation for anyone to do what they want. Due to gender inequality in most of the countries, there will be people out there who have difficulties in doing what they want because of their gender, whether it is a male or a female. There may be someone who is hesitating to take action for their dream just because of gender. This phenomenon of people still locked up in their gender should stop in order for the whole world to develop. Fortunately, the world is changing and in fact, many perspectives towards gender equality have changed positively. I strongly believe that we have the responsibility to start changing and promoting gender equality for everyone. It will not be easily done and it will take a long period of time for the world to achieve gender equality. However, if we start one by one breaking the invisible wall of gender inequality, we can definitely make a better world for our future generations. There are many ways we can start promoting gender equality. For instance, making girls wear pants instead of skirts for uniforms, men even more helping housework at homes and start employing more women workers can be contributing to solve this problem. Thank you and I hope this cleared your enquiry.

Hello, I am Hwayeon Ko from Group 1, and I would like to start off by saying that I really enjoyed listening to your presentation because I also believe that tackling gender inequality issues is very crucial to our society, and its improvement merely lies on the hands of the coming generations, which are us. However, there are some questions that I would like to hear your opinion from. Do you believe that our efforts in trying to reduce gender inequality could spark further polarization in society (e.g/ feminism is already a term that many people misinterpret or fail to see its core meaning), and if so, how should the coming generations solve this problem/misunderstanding? Furthermore, what kind of systems can be introduced in schools to create a gender-equal school atmosphere?

Thank you so much for your kind feedback.
First off, I feel very concerned about the fact that the term ‘feminism’ is sometimes misinterpreted in the society as a disgust towards men. My answer for your question is yes, I believe that there actually are possibilities of our endeavor for gender parity being distorted. In order to prevent these misinterpretations, I think we should keep showing that supporting gender equality is beneficial to both males and females. To add on, it will be important to protect the pure meaning of ‘feminism’ that it is defining and establishing equality of sexes in many fields, not objecting the rights of men.
We should start putting efforts for gender parity before our next generations encounter these problems in the society. As changing the world’s perspectives towards gender equality takes a long time, it is necessary to make sure our future generations also continue to take action for a gender equal world. At schools, I believe gradually breaking the stereotypes of genders is extremely essential as the values of students tend to be highly influenced by their peers at that age. It will definitely help if students have an open-mind about gender when they are young since it may be difficult to change when grown-up.

Hello this is Kyu lee Park from TAT.
You mentioned that there will be improved satisfaction significantly in life due to progressed gender equality, can you elaborate exactly how the residents of higher gender equal countries benefit from this? Also, may I know the reasons behind your choosing to show the GDP per capita graph for the nordics countries instead of other regions?

      2021년 3월 26일 at 11:28 오전

Hello, thank you for your opinion on my research.
Directly answering your question, when the rate of life satisfaction increases due to an improvement in gender equality, life expectancy is also likely to increase. Measure of life satisfaction will contribute as an indicator of living standards of a country. Countries having high life satisfaction of residents will mean that they have been performing well in providing health care, economic services and more to their residents. Countries having people who are happier will likely to have more motivated workers which may increase the productive capacity as well.
The reason why I chose to show the GDP per capita graph for the Nordic countries is that those countries have the highest gender equality rate among the world. I thought it will be a reasonable data to show how Nordic countries can benefit by being more gender equal.
Thank you and I hope my responses helped your understanding.

Hello. We are Keonguk student council team 1.
Focusing on not only a country but also many countries was wonderful.
Since we are living in Japan, the ratio of 5.3 made me realize that we should work hard to change the situation of gender inequality.
Also, it is difficult to make gender equality come. Thus, we would love to know a solution that you could think of as an original. Thank you.

Hi, thank you for your review.
The solution for achieving gender equality is actually very broad in my opinion. It is not something we can easily change with only few people putting efforts. What I think that is one of the important parts of achieving gender equality is to let people realize gender parity is not only beneficial for women. Gender equality is actually providing advantages to men as well. The term ‘feminism’ is now sometimes misused as a term for hating men, but the real meaning of ‘feminism’ is the advocacy of women’s right on the ground of the equality of sexes. I believe the first step to take action for gender equality is to engage more men about gender and showing gender equality can make a better world for both female and male. Thank you.

Hello, I’m Kim Hee Jun, the mentor of Group 2.

I thoroughly reviewed the presentation and the report you prepared. I was impressed by the comprehensive discussion of various related issues rather than focusing on “gender discrimination” itself. Gender inequality is a “cross-cutting issue,” and it is difficult to reach the essence without considering a whole range of related fields. So I think your approach was good.

However, it is regrettable that the discussion is too superficial to present what you are trying to say.

I’d like to hear from you about this.
    Thank you.

Hello, it was meaningful to get a feedback from your side.
For your question about my research, I included many resources that shows the seriousness of gender discrimination around the globe which can also increase the consciousness. By using graphs and data from different sites, I tried to bring about gender discrimination in many fields and the improvements in some countries. The main point I wanted to show in my research is the importance of achieving gender equality and the reason for that as well. I hope this answered your question. Thank you.

This is Jennifer Kwon from Seoul International School. I really liked your report and presentation in that it not only mentioned how gender equality would be beneficial in both social and economic means but also handled certain misconceptions on how gender equality is not only about women. You proposed that promoting more education about gender equality should be a necessity, but is there a specific policy or education system that you want to advocate? Thank you for the great presentation and report.
