A Plan for Higher Education / Widespread Global Education

SDGs: 2

Widespread high-quality education is very important for the future of this world. Without it, the world as we know it would fall into as state of chaos and disarray. In order to prevent this, a plan for worldwide education must be made and implemented. One possible strategy is distance learning.

Hi, my name is Harris Park and I go to Ernest Manning High School in Canada. I agree with your opinion that online learning will continue even after the pandemic concludes. It has deemed to be a very helpful method and a great alternative for in-class learning. My school has also incorporated online learning for some courses and I believe it is a very efficient way of learning. People from all around the world can interact with each other which is a great advantage. Nonetheless, online learning may be too expensive for less-developed countries. There are countries that don’t have access to the internet or even electricity. What is your opinion on the financial aspect of online learning? Do you have any solutions that allow individuals all around the world to access online learning?

Thank you for your question. I agree that a distance learning plan may be hard to implement in less developed countries. However, there are many efforts to change this. For the internet, things such as SpaceX’s Starlink may help with widespread internet issues. Also, as technology advances, it is possible to get decent electronic devices with internet access for a much lower price. Although this may not completely cover everyone, it can be a start to widespread education.

Hello, I am Hwayeon Ko from Group SDG 1! I also share the same thoughts with you that online education could be a potential key factor in reducing societal problems and avoiding chaos. Due to the current situation, learning in general has taken whole new shapes and is seemingly going to develop even further. I believe that education is a very important aspect to consider when combatting with numerous SDGs. Do you believe that, when undeveloped countries get access to internet and online learning, these countries would have the chance of overcoming problems (poverty, hunger, inequality…etc.) in their country? If so, what are some initiatives that developing/developed countries and international organisations could possibly carry out?

I think that in the near future many underdeveloped countries can get internet access. Already programs such as SpaceX’s Starlink may help with this to provide internet to everyone. Once that has been achieved, many more people can receive a good education. Using what they have learned, they can then go on to get more and better jobs that can help them to improve their situation. Some things that organizations can do is to create classes or prerecorded lessons to allow people to receive an education.

Thank you for your question. Governments or organizations can provide funding or extend their infrastructure to support this system. Governments will likely want to educate everyone because educated people usually generate more revenue and that can help the government as well.

Distance Learning

Thank you for your question. Getting enough resources such as computers may be a challenge we need to overcome in order to provide widespread education. One way to face that is by prerecording lessons. That way, several people can watch the lessons because there is a certain limit of people who can crowd around a screen. It can also allow people to watch the lessons around the world if they are in different time zones. Also, by using prerecorded lessons, the number of devices needed can also be reduced as people can watch the lesson several times using the same device. In order to promote the distance learning plan, the government or other organizations can promote it so that can raise awareness about the program.

We are Konkuk High School Student Association 1 of group 2!!
I strongly agree with your idea of using different kinds of plantation methods. It is a flexible idea.
However, I’ve came up with two questions.
First, who is taking part of the expenses such as the equipment of the tele-education, solar panels, and windmill?
Also, the reality of fund raise is sometimes very hard and can be given up by the supponsers. It is happening a lot. Therefore, if you have any clues for it, we would love to know it. Thank you.

    Hello Alex Park,

I am Suebyn Sin of Group 5. I enjoyed your presentation and essay! I agree with you on the point that online learning will be utilized even after the pandemic. However, I have a quick question regarding your essay and presentation. What is your opinion on the argument that online learning is ineffective in comparison to in-person learning? Of course, online learning is significantly better than no education at all but is it realistic to educate people through only online resources?

I hope to hear from you soon! I would love to hear your opinions on my questions.

Hello, I’m Kim HeeJun, the mentor of Group 2.

You embodied your argument with a specific example. It’s a great approach.

However, in general, education appears to be a bigger problem in developing countries than in developed countries. Is the solution you mentioned possible to be realized in developing countries?
The majority of the world’s population is still without personal communication devices such as the Internet and PCs.

I’d like to hear your answer.

    Thank you.

Greetings, this is Kyu lee Park from TAT.
Thank you for the presentation. I also agree with your statements to some extent. However, I would like to ask more specifics. In order to implement your solution, what necessary steps would countries/governments have to take? Also, should there be a standardized plan that could be used as a guide for all nations moving forward? If so, what should be included in that plan?
